HXS series is a low cost switch USD 42 in hundreds. It
uses a wide beam transceiver, and is therefore less sensitive to the
orientation of the object tripping the switch. When the object comes
within a given distance (see table below) from the device the brown wire
goes from off state 0 v to an on state (Vsupply). This device is capable of
sourcing 100mA on the brown wire to a voltage level of 0.2 Volts. The table below is a
general selection guide, if you don't find a device that suits your
application, let us know we can change the parameters.

* WARNING if you reverse polarize the device or
violate the absolute maximum ratings the device can be damaged.
The illustration below shows how the HXSW switch
series can be used to drive LEDs and Relays. When the distance D
equals the distance specified in the table below (D=Switch Distance) then
the logic level of the brown wire switches from 0 to Vcc or from the voltage
level on the black wire to the voltage level on the red wire. If an object
that has tripped the switch retracts to Switch Distance + Hysteresis then
the voltage level on the brown wire becomes 0 or equal to that on the black
wire.
- For example HXS101 has switch distance equal to 1m and hysteresis
equal to 0.1m therefore
- D = 1m brown wire turns on
- D = 1.1m brown wire turns off

Beam Pattern
The sensor is located in the locus of the polar plot
shown below facing north, maximum signal strength is along the 0 degree
axis. As the observer with the measuring instruments moves east and west
i.e. perpendicular to the 0 line signal strength degrades. The beam
pattern character line shown below represents observation angles where
signal has degraded by 6 decibels.
